SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Fernanda Carvajal has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 11-15, the conference announced on Tuesday. The weekly award is the first of the season.
Carvajal went 1-0 in the Bucs’ opening week of play, picking up a singles win at the No. 2 position against Kentucky’s Ellie Eades in three sets, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.
In ETSU’s 5-2 loss at Kentucky on Sunday, Carvajal paired with Daniela Rivera at No. 1 doubles to take on the 36
th-ranked doubles team of Makayla Mills and Elizabeth Stevens. Carvajal and Rivera were tied 4-4 against the Kentucky duo before the match was stopped due to the Wildcats claiming the doubles point.
ETSU (0-1) faces a pair of ACC foes this week, visiting Clemson on Friday at 5 p.m. and Virginia Tech Sunday at 1 p.m.
