SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina midfielder/forward Isabella Demarco and Samford goalkeeper Zoe Clevely have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the month, respectively, for all competition played in August.
Demarco scored five goals, including two game winners, for the Catamounts in the month of August. She scored the only goal of the match in the squad’s 1-0 win at UNC Asheville on Aug. 17. On Aug. 23, the sophomore captured the second hat trick of her career as Western Carolina defeated Winthrop, 5-1, on the road, in a game where Demarco played just 30 minutes. Demarco’s hat trick was the sixth in Catamount history. The Charleston, South Carolina, native concluded the month with a goal in the team’s 2-2 tie with Georgia State. Demarco’s five goals are currently tied for the most in the SoCon this season.
Clevely started all five games inside the net for Samford in August. The native of Huntington Beach, California, had three solo shutouts in the month versus Power Five opponents. Clevely opened the season with five saves at Auburn on Aug. 17 in a game that ended in a scoreless tie. One week later, she played 60 minutes and contributed one save to a 6-0 win for the Bulldogs over Jacksonville State. The graduate student recorded three saves against Oklahoma as Samford defeated the Sooners, 4-0, on Aug. 27, before ending the month with three more saves at Ole Miss on Aug. 31 in a 0-0 tie. Clevely finished August with a 0.43 goals against average.
