Men’s soccer players of the week announced

Wofford’s Rojel, Mercer’s McMullen honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford forward Nikolai Rojel and Mercer goalkeeper, Trevor McMullen have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition Aug. 29 – Sept. 4.

Rojel scored both goals for the Terriers on Thursday in Wofford’s 2-2 tie against 3rd-ranked Duke. The sophomore from Copenhagen, Denmark, played 79 minutes in the contest and scored in the 32nd and 82nd minutes to ensure the draw. With his two goals, Rojel reached 10 goals scored in a Wofford uniform. Rojel is currently ranked second among active career leaders in both points per game and goals per game.

McMullen played all 90 minutes inside the net for Mercer in their 2-0 victory over South Florida on Friday. The Decatur, Georgia, native made six saves on 10 shots faced to keep the Bulls scoreless. The Bears’ victory represents McMullen’s seventh career shutout and added to his career total of 112 saves, which leads The Southern Conference. The senior also leads the league in goals against average and save percentage.

Wofford (0-2-1) travels to Atlanta, Georgia, to play Georgia State on Tuesday, Sept. 5. Mercer (2-1-0) plays Jacksonville at home, on Tuesday, Sept. 5, before traveling to Wisconsin for a matchup in Madison on Friday, Sept. 8.
