Samford falls to Florida State

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford Volleyball team fell 3-0 to the Florida State Seminoles on Monday afternoon, dropping to 3-3 on the season.
 
Gracie Lynn Butler led the Bulldogs on offense with 10 kills while Kaleigh Meritt notched eight kills and Greer Golden recorded seven. Senior Kate Wonus registered five kills and five block assists while posting a .455 hitting percentage.
 
Freshman Lexi Thatcher distributed a team-high 26 assists while Kate Morgan paced the team with 12 digs.   
 
The Bulldogs gave the Seminoles a run for their money in set one, leading by as many as four points after an FSU attack error put Samord on top 14-10. The Seminoles settled in down the stretch, tying the score at 17 and then scoring the final three points of the set to claim it 25-20.
 
FSU controlled set two from the start, using a 16-5 run to pin the Bulldogs into a corner. Samford showed late life, using a 3-0 run at set point to soften the blow of a 25-14 setback in the second set.
 
The Bulldogs continued to fight in set three, with the score reading 11-10 in favor of FSU following a kill from Butler. The Seminoles created separation by logging a crucial 3-0 run late in the set to go up 19-14, and then another to take a 22-15 lead before eventually sealing the deal 25-17.
