SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference is launching its new “All Eyes On” initiative to highlight some of the league’s top matchups during the school year. The first installment is Friday’s volleyball match between The Citadel and Chattanooga. The two teams face off in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at 6 p.m.
Tale of the Tape
- The Citadel Bulldogs (12-0) at Chattanooga Mocs (11-3)
- Both teams are the only SoCon squads that have double digit wins so far this season
- In the coaches preseason poll, Chattanooga was predicted to finish fifth and The Citadel was chosen sixth
- Chattanooga leads the all-time series 34-6, with the Mocs winning the last three matches. The Citadel’s last victory came on Oct. 2, 2021, via sweep
- The Citadel is one of five teams that are still undefeated in the country. The others are Arizona State, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Wyoming
- Chattanooga is off to its best start since 1987 when the Mocs began 6-1 and won the conference tournament to cap that season
- Mocs head coach Julie Torbett is four wins away from 500 for her career
- The Citadel’s Ali Ruffin and Chattanooga’s Morgan Romano are both in the top 20 in the NCAA in total kills and points
- Chattanooga’s Paige Gallentine is the SoCon’s active career leader in digs (1,698) and her teammate Gylian Finch is the active career leader in kills (1,161) and service aces (112)
- Among current SoCon players that have played at least 225 sets, The Citadel’s Belle Hogan has the best assists per set average (9.60)
