SoCon announces cross country runners of the week

ETSU’s Bowers, Chattanooga’s Green-Boyd selected by coaches panel

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Jason Bowers and Chattanooga’s Lesley Green-Boyd have been named the Southern Conference men’s and women’s cross country runners of the week, respectively, after all competition from Sept. 15-19. 

Bowers finished in first place at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, on Friday in his first competition as a Buccaneer. The sophomore transfer hails from Parys, South Africa, and came to ETSU from Cumberland University. He finished with an 8k time of 23:54.6, leading ETSU to a second-place team finish with 57 points. 

Green-Boyd led Chattanooga to a second place finish at the Mountain Dew Classic, which was hosted by eighth-ranked Florida on Friday. The graduate transfer from Dayton, Tennessee, ran a 16:57 on the 3-mile course for a second-place finish. The Mocs finished fourth as a team in the meet with 130 points. 

ETSU and Chattanooga return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30, both traveling to Louisville for the Live in Lou XC Classic.
