AUSTIN, Texas – Samford's Erin Long earned honorable mention All-America honors in the women's javelin throw at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday evening at the University of Texas.
 
Long had a long throw of 48.40 meters, which came on the first of her three attempts. The toss placed her 21st in the event, giving her honorable mention All-America honors. The top eight in each event at the NCAA Championships are named first-team All-American, while those who finish ninth through 16th earn second-team honors.
 
Long earned her spot at the NCAA Championships with a school-record toss of 51.10 meters, placing seventh at the NCAA East Regional. This season, she earned her third straight Southern Conference title in the javelin with a throw of 50.68 meters.
 
Long is the second Samford student-athlete to compete at this year's NCAA Championships. Titus Moore also picked up honorable mention All-America honors in the men's 110-meter hurdles Wednesday evening with a time of 13.89 seconds.
