Wofford's Galanie named Academic All-American

SoCon Player of the Year takes honor for second straight year

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2023 Academic All-America® teams for baseball as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC) have been announced, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Wofford College student-athlete Ryan Galanie was named to the second team. He repeats after garnering third-team honors last season.

Galanie, a native of Mason, Ohio, is one of only five baseball Terriers to ever earn CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-American honors, and he is only the second to ever garner the distinction twice, joining Justin Laughlin (1993-94). Galanie is the program’s first to repeat at the Division I level. Among the 35 honorees on the Division I squad this season, Galanie is one of just five in the nation to be honored multiple years in a row.

The 2023 season concluded with Galanie leading the Southern Conference in hits (88) and RBIs (66). He added a .383 batting average with a .491 on-base clip and .670 slugging percentage. The first baseman clubbed 17 home runs on the season and scored 73 runs while swiping 19 bases. He drew 40 walks and owned a .992 fielding percentage.

This honor comes on top of an already decorated campaign for Galanie, who was tabbed as the Southern Conference Player of the Year. He twice earned SoCon Player of the Week recognition and also claimed SoCon Player of the Month twice. He added a pair of SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week selections while being named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, making him only the second Terrier ever to make that cut.

Galanie graduated last month with degrees in computer science and Spanish and a 3.81 grade point average. He is a multi-time honoree on the SoCon Spring All-Academic Team and SoCon Academic Honor Roll.
