Three earn ABCA/Rawlings All-Region honors

Samford's Cravey on first team, ETSU's Tate and Wofford's Galanie on second teams

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Three Southern Conference baseball players earned spots on the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region Teams. The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee.

Samford’s Jacob Cravey was a first-team selection in the Southeast Region, while ETSU’s Nathanial Tate earned a second-team nod in the region. Wofford’s Ryan Galanie was a second-team pick in the Atlantic Region.

First-team All-Region selections are nominated for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors. The ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-America teams will be announced the morning of Friday, June 16, prior to the start of the 2023 NCAA Div. I College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.

Cravey posted a record of 9-2 in 2023 with a 3.10 ERA that ranked second in the Southern Conference. The SoCon Pitcher of the Year struck out a league-high 126 batters, finishing him eighth in all of Division I baseball. The Andalusia, Alabama, native delivered big-time performances when it mattered most for the Bulldogs, going a perfect 7-0 in conference starts this season while posting a 3.67 ERA.

Cravey allowed just two earned runs in 13 1/3 innings in his pair of postseason starts, helping the Bulldogs best ETSU 2-1 in the opening round of the SoCon Baseball Championship presented by Holston Gases and knock off Southern Miss 4-2 in the opening round of the NCAA Auburn Regional. He also picked up a save in the Bulldogs' 5-2 win over Wofford in the SoCon Championship game on May 27.

Tate becomes the first ABCA All-Region selection from ETSU since catcher Hagen Owenby in 2017. He is also the first ETSU pitcher to earn honors since Kerry Doane in 2013. The Manchester, Tennessee, native finished his fifth season with the Bucs in 2023, breaking the Southern Conference record for SoCon Pitcher of the Week awards in a season (5) and in a career (7). Tate was also a first-team all-conference selection and added two Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week awards.

Tate finished the season with a 9-4 record and a 3.56 ERA over 16 starts. He led the Southeast Region and ranked among the NCAA leaders with five complete games this season, while also leading the region with 93 2/3 innings pitched and six pickoffs. He finished with 97 strikeouts to just 44 walks.

Galanie is the first Terrier in 13 years to be honored on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Team. The native of Mason, Ohio, is only the third all-region recipient in Wofford's Division I era, joining Brandon Waring in 2007 and Mac Doyle in 2010. This recognition adds on to Galanie's already impressive list of accolades for the 2023 season, including being named Southern Conference Player of the Year, CSC Academic All-America and a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.

The 2023 season concluded with Galanie leading the league in hits (88) and RBI (66). He added a .383 batting average with a .491 on-base clip and .670 slugging percentage. The first baseman clubbed 17 home runs on the season and scored 73 runs while swiping 19 bases. He drew 40 walks and owned a .992 fielding percentage. Galanie's 73 runs tied Wofford's single-season program record, and his 88 hits fell just one short of tying the program's single-season mark. He ranked top five in the SoCon in average, hits, home runs, OBP, runs, RBI, slugging and total bases.
