LUBBOCK, Texas – Samford’s Jacob Cravey and Wofford’s Lucas Mahlstedt are among 25 national semifinalists for the National Pitcher of the Year Award,
the College Baseball Foundation announced Wednesday.
Cravey, a junior right-hander, is 8-2 on the season with a 3.28 ERA, the second-best mark in the league and tops among all starters. The Andalusia, Alabama, native leads the league and is fourth in NCAA Division I in strikeouts with 105 this season in a league-high 82 1/3 innings pitched. Cravey ranks second in the SoCon in opposing batting average, as foes are hitting just .207 against him this season.
Mahlstedt, a sophomore from Ormand Beach, Florida, leads the SoCon with a 2.78 ERA and is 5-2 on the season with four saves in 71 1/3 innings pitched over 22 appearances. Opponents are hitting just .230 against the right-handed reliever, which ranks fourth in the SoCon. His WHIP of 1.04 ranks 23
rd in Division I. He was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Month for April.
