SoCon Softball Player, Pitcher of the Week announced

Chattanooga’s Phillips and Lavdis honored

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga infielder Kaili Phillips and right-hander Alyssa Lavdis have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games from April 24-30. The awards are selected by the league office.

Phillips batted .500, had an .714 on-base percentage and slugged 1.250 for Chattanooga as the Mocs swept Furman in a three-game series on the road last weekend. In the first game of the series on Saturday, the Ooltewah, Tennessee, native was 1-for-2 with three walks and scored two runs as the Mocs won the contest 10-6. Later that day, Phillips was 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in the sixth inning, sparking a six-run frame for Chattanooga as the team rallied to take game two of the doubleheader 6-4. In the series finale on Sunday, the redshirt junior was 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the game’s first at-bat in a 5-4 win in nine innings for the Mocs. Phillips also had two walks and two runs scored in the final game of the weekend.

Lavdis had three appearances with one start for the Mocs last week, going 2-0 with a save and a 0.98 ERA. The native of Concord, Ohio, pitched two innings with one strikeout and gave up zero runs to get her second save of the season in the opening game of the series. The sophomore started the second game of the team’s doubleheader and threw a complete game with five strikeouts and allowed one earned run. In the series finale, Lavdis tossed 5 1/3 innings of relief work, giving up one earned run and striking out two batters to help the Mocs complete the sweep of Furman.

Chattanooga (24-22, 7-8 SoCon) hosts Samford (20-28, 9-6) for a weekend series that begins on Saturday, May 6.
