ETSU’s Badra repeats as SoCon player of the week

Extends SoCon career record to 12 player of the week citations

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Dimitri Badra has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 28 to March 6, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Badra went a combined 3-0 on the week as the Bucs won both of their matches.
 
In Wednesday’s 5-2 home win over UNC Asheville, Badra paired with Adam Nagoudi for a 6-1 win over Rafa Serra and Jon Brann Reid at No. 1 doubles to help the Bucs secure the point. In singles play, the redshirt junior from Maracay, Venezuela, topped Reid 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1.
 
In Sunday’s 6-1 home win over Tennessee Tech, Badra earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Mika Berghaus at No. 1 singles.
 
The weekly award is Badra’s second straight and the 12th of his career, extending his SoCon record.
 
ETSU (4-8, 1-0 SoCon), which has won four straight matches, will play its next three on the road against league opponents, starting with UNCG (1-8, 0-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Also nominated: Elijah Poritzky (Furman), Mohammed Ali Bellalouna (Samford) and Ryan Mudre (Chattanooga).
