GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman University head basketball coach Bob Richey has been named a finalist for the 2022-23 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award, it was announced Monday by CollegeInsider.com.
 
Richey, now in his sixth year as head coach of the Paladins and who tonight will coach his Paladins (26-7), the Southern Conference regular-season champions, in the championship game of the league tournament in Asheville, North Carolina, is among 25 finalists for the award, which will be presented at the 2023 NCAA National Championship in Houston (April 1-3).
 
Richey has compiled a 137-53 record as head coach at Furman, his .721 winning percentage ranking among the top 20 nationally among active Division I head coaches. His 2022-23 squad claimed the SoCon regular-season championship, and Sunday’s 83-80 overtime win over Western Carolina in the league tournament semifinals marked the Paladins’ school-record 26th victory.
 
The Skip Prosser Man of the Year award honors those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it, as well.
 
In six years as head coach at Wake Forest, Prosser posted a 126-68 record. For his career, he was 291-146 in 14 seasons, including six as the head coach at Xavier and one year at Loyola (Md.).
 
Prosser passed away on July 26, 2007.
