SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder David Wiley and ETSU right-hander Nathanial Tate have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from Feb. 27 to March 5. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
Wiley hit .500 as the Terriers went 4-0 on the week, scoring nine runs and driving in 10 as Wofford downed Winthrop in a midweek game and swept Sacred Heart over the weekend. Wiley was 3-for-4 with six RBIs, a double, a triple, a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored in Tuesday’s 18-10 win over Winthrop. The sophomore from Statham, Georgia, drew three walks and scored twice in Saturday’s opener against Sacred Heart, a 9-3 win, and went 2-for-2 with two walks, a grand slam – for his first career home run – and four runs scored in the nightcap of the doubleheader, a 15-8 win. For the week, he drew six walks and had six hits in 12 at bats.
 
Wofford (10-1), which has won 10 straight since a season-opening loss, visits Winthrop on Tuesday before taking on Michigan State at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina, on Wednesday. The Terriers host Cincinnati for a three-game set over the weekend.
 
Tate made two starts for the Bucs on the week, going 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA. In Tuesday’s scheduled one-inning outing against App State, he struck out two of the three batters he faced in ETSU’s eventual 5-0 win. In Sunday’s 7-2 in over Marist, the senior from Manchester, Tennessee, allowed two hits, a hit batter and no walks, striking out five in six innings. Of the two hits Tate allowed, one was a bunt single. Tate picked off the hit batsman during the next at bat and allowed just one runner to reach second base against him on the week.
 
ETSU (6-5) visits Clemson on Tuesday before hosting Winthrop for a three-game weekend set.
