UNCG finishes second at Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate

PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. - The UNC Greensboro's (UNCG) women’s golf sophomore Ava Romfo collected a top-five finish as the Spartans claimed second place after 54 holes of the Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate at Caledonia Golf and Fish Club.
 
Romfo finished the tournament in a tie for fifth place at two-over-par (215) after a final round one-over-par (72) performance. The sophomore carded three birdies on the day with her first coming on the par five, 490-yard eighth hole. Both of Romfo's back nine birdies came on par four holes starting on the 363-yard 14th hole. Romfo concluded her round with a birdie on the 377-yard 18th. Standing one shot for a top-three finish, Romfo shared fifth place with three other golfers.
 
Holcomb tallied a 54-hole total of four-over-par (217) after her second consecutive even-par (71) effort in her final round. The sophomore earned a share of 11th place, one shot off the top ten. Holcomb posted an unblemished front nine scorecard with her lone birdie of the day coming on the par three, 152-yard third hole. The sophomore earned par on every hole but the third and 18th on the day. The effort helped Holcomb move up the leaderboard by three spots.
 
Anna Bowman and Alexandra Phelps each carded four-over-par (75) final round scorecards. Phelps birdied twice, both on par four holes and posted a 54-hole total of ten-over-par (223), good for a tie for 21st. Bowman birdied the eighth hole and finished 14-over-par (227), good for a share of 29th place.
 
The Spartans moved up one spot on the team leaderboard to settle in second place with a 54-hole total of 30-over-par (882). UNCG posted the second-lowest team score in the final round with a nine-over-par (293) and finished two spots ahead of UNC Asheville in third place.
 
INSIDE THE SCORECARD
· UNCG's effort on par three holes (eight-over-par) stood in second place.
· The Spartans also finished second in par four scoring at 39-over-par.
· At one-under-par, UNCG posted the third-best team effort on the par fives.
· With 39 birdies, the Spartans held a share of second place in the category.
· Holcomb's one-under-par effort on par three holes finished in a tie for second.
· Romfo's one-over-par score on par fours earned a share of fourth in the field.
· She also led the field in birdies with 12.
· Holcomb's 39 pars stood in a tie for second in the field.

The Spartans await the start of the Southern Conference Championship, taking place April 16-18 at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Spartans will make their second appearance on the course this season.
