SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel's Sebastian Kamieniecki has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from March 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Kamieniecki went a combined 5-1 on the week in helping the Bulldogs to their first SoCon win since 2017 and first consecutive league wins since 2010.
 
In The Citadel’s 5-2 win over UNCG on Wednesday, Kamieniecki won at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles. The junior from Greenville, South Carolina, teamed with Hayden Shoemake for a 6-4 win over David Flisberg and John Gabelic. Kamieniecki then downed Devon Moskowitz in singles action by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 score, helping the Bulldogs to their first SoCon win since March 15, 2017, exactly six years prior. The win was The Citadel’s third in a row overall and snapped its 35-match losing streak in SoCon play.
 
The Bulldogs won their second straight league match on Friday, topping Wofford 4-3. Kamieniecki again teamed up with Shoemake at No. 1, with the pair downing Will Fullett and Ian Rasheed by a 6-4 score. Kamieniecki then rebounded from a first-set loss to down Fullett at No. 4 singles, 0-6, 7-5, 7-5. The win gave The Citadel consecutive SoCon victories for the first time in 13 years.
 
The Citadel’s winning streak came to an end against Chattanooga on Sunday, 6-1. After Kamieniecki and Shoemake fell at No. 1 doubles, Kamieniecki topped Peyton Gatti at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 7-5, for the Bulldogs’ lone point on the day.
 
The Citadel (9-16, 2-2 SoCon) returns to action on April 1 when it hosts The Citadel Spring Classic.
