Wofford’s Galanie named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Senior hit .643 on the week, has 3.80 GPA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford baseball player Ryan Galanie has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from March 8-14. The selection is made by the conference office.

Galanie hit .643 in Wofford’s four games over the week, going 9-for-14 with four RBIs as the Terriers went 3-1.

In his first game of the week, Galanie went 2-for-3 with three walks, a stolen base and an RBI double in Wofford’s 12-9 win over Michigan State on March 8. The senior first baseman from Mason, Ohio, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored in Friday’s 12-3 win over Cincinnati, adding a walk, a stolen base and his league-leading sixth home run of the season. Galanie reached base four times in Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Bearcats, as he was hit by a pitch and drew two walks – one of them intentional – in addition to singling. The win was Wofford’s program-record 14th in a row. In Tuesday’s 10-8 setback at Georgia, Galanie added yet another multi-hit outing, going 3-for-5 with a run scored.

For the week, Galanie reached base in 16 of his 21 plate appearances and put together a slugging percentage of .929 and an on-base percentage of .762. He was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Monday.

A computer science and Spanish double major, Galanie holds a 3.80 GPA.

Also nominated: Mats Ege (ETSU men’s golf), Josh Farmer (Mercer baseball) and Elizabeth Lohbauer (Western Carolina women’s golf).
