SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford first baseman Ryan Galanie and Mercer right-hander Josh Farmer have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from March 6-12. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
Galanie hit .571, slugged .857 and fashioned a .714 on-base percentage as the Terriers went 4-0 on the week to extend their winning streak to a program-record 14 games. Galanie, the February SoCon Player of the Month, recorded three multi-hit outings, starting with a 2-for-5 showing with an RBI and a run scored in Wofford’s 8-0 win at Winthrop on Tuesday. He followed that up with two hits, three walks, an RBI double and a stolen base in a 12-9 win over Michigan State on Wednesday at Fluor Field in Greenville, South Carolina. In Friday’s 12-3 win over Cincinnati, the senior from the Cincinnati suburb of Mason, Ohio, went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. He drew a walk, stole a base and hit his league-leading sixth home run of the 2023 campaign. In Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Bearcats, Galanie reached base four times, as he was hit by a pitch, singled and drew two walks – one of them intentional. He reached base in 15 of his 21 plate appearances on the week.
 
Wofford (14-1), which has won 14 straight since a season-opening loss, visits Georgia on Tuesday before heading to Cincinnati to take on Xavier for a three-game series starting Friday.
 
Farmer earned his first win of the season with a quality start Sunday that locked up a three-game sweep of Baylor. The redshirt senior from Bogart, Georgia, turned in his longest outing of the young season, throwing seven innings of four-hit, scoreless ball in the Bears’ 6-3 win. Farmer struck out five batters for the second straight start and walked just one on the day. He worked three 1-2-3 innings, including the seventh, his final inning of the afternoon.
 
Mercer (12-5), which earned its first-ever three-game sweep over an active Big 12 Conference member, hosts Georgia State on Tuesday before welcoming Rutgers for a three-game weekend set at OrthoGeorgia Park in Macon, Georgia.
