SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman runner Megan Marvin has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Feb. 22-28. The selection is made by the conference office.

Marvin won a pair of events at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships in Lexington, Virginia, over the weekend. On Saturday, she ran the anchor leg on the Paladins’ victorious distance medley relay, which set new meet and program records with a time of 11:25.60, which took nearly six seconds off the previous SoCon standard – which Marvin also held as a member of last year’s winning DMR. Marvin helped Furman to its seventh straight title in the event.

On Sunday, Marvin won her third straight title in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:06.25 to narrowly miss her own meet record from last season. Marvin also ran a leg on Furman’s 4x400-meter relay team, which finished fourth in 3:54.68, just 0.12 seconds off the program record.

A junior economics major from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Marvin holds a 3.95 GPA. The Student-Athlete of the Week award is her third of the academic year.

Also nominated: Genevieve Schwarz (ETSU women’s indoor track and field), Samuel MacLeod (Mercer men’s tennis), Lesley Green (Chattanooga indoor track and field), Brett Cook (VMI baseball), Elizabeth Lohbauer (Western Carolina women’s golf) and Netanya Linares (Wofford women’s indoor track and field).
