SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford earned four of the eight honors and Furman claimed two as the Southern Conference indoor track and field men’s and women’s specialty awards were announced Wednesday.
The awards were voted on by the league’s nine indoor coaches.
Samford graduate student Cagan Campbell was voted the men’s Most Outstanding Track Performer after scoring 25 points at the SoCon Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend. The Tuscaloosa, Alabama, native medaled in three events on the track, tying for first in the 60-meter dash and followed that up with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash. Campbell capped his big Sunday with a win in the 200-meter dash. Campbell helped the Bulldogs to their fourth straight men’s team title.
The Bulldogs’ Hannah Daffin earned Most Outstanding Field Performer honors on the women’s side. The senior from Mobile, Alabama, won both of her events at the meet to net 20 points for Samford, claiming the shot put on Saturday for her second tile in three years and the weight throw on Sunday for her second straight championship in that event and Samford’s third in four seasons. Daffin helped the Bulldogs to their eighth straight women’s team title.
For the second straight season, Samford’s Rod Tiffin swept the SoCon Coach of the Year honors.
