SPARTANBURG, S.C. – App State’s Ethan Oakley has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Feb. 1-7. The selection is made by the league office.

Oakley, who is unranked at 133 pounds, won his lone match of the week versus Chattanooga on Feb. 5. The Trinity, North Carolina, native upset 13th-ranked Brayden Palmer 5-2. Oakley broke a 1-1 tie on a takedown with 18 seconds left and got another takedown in the final seconds of the match to secure the victory.

The redshirt freshman is now 4-0 in SoCon duals and 6-0 in overall duals. Oakley is 13-4 in his last 17 matches after he became the starter for App State in January following a season-ending injury to Sean Carter.

The Mountaineers (9-2, 5-0 SoCon) defeated Chattanooga (7-9, 4-1), 25-6, to remain unbeaten in conference duals.

App State hosts Campbell (14-8, 5-0) on Sunday, Feb. 19, in a dual between the league’s two teams that hold an undefeated conference record.

Also nominated: Caleb Hopkins (Campbell), Tanner Peake (Davidson), Rocky Jordan (Chattanooga) and Ryan Vigil (VMI)
