SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU women’s tennis player Yunuen Elizarraras has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Feb. 1-7. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Elizarraras went a combined in 3-0 last week, going 2-0 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles.
 
In the Bucs’ 6-1 win at Lipscomb on Saturday, Elizarraras earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Perri Howard at No. 6 singles. Her No. 3 doubles match with Ralitsa Alexandrova was abandoned once ETSU clinched the doubles point.
 
The following day at Belmont, Elizarraras and Alexandrova earned a 6-1 win over the Bruins’ Aly Getty and Libbie Hamilton. Elizarraras rolled to another straight-sets win at No. 6 singles, topping Getty 6-1, 6-3.
 
A graduate student from Cuernavaca, Mexico, Elizarraras owns a 4.0 GPA in early childhood development.
 
ETSU (4-3) faces App State on Thursday and Davidson on Saturday, both in Bristol, Tennessee.
 
Also nominated: Megan Marvin (Furman women’s indoor track and field), Mary Weston Courville (Mercer women’s tennis), Alexis Lopez (Samford women’s tennis), Addie Grace Porter (Chattanooga women’s basketball), Jon Hoover (VMI wrestling) and Kerrington Johnson (Wofford).
