SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Sandeep Mohandoss has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 31 to Feb. 6, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Mohandoss went a combined 3-0 on the week, claiming a pair of wins at No. 3 singles and a win at No. 1 doubles.
 
In Samford’s 5-2 setback to South Alabama on Friday, Mohandoss picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jack Clements. His doubles match with partner Maxwell Giddens against Clements and Maxime St-Hilaire was abandoned with the score tied at 5.
 
The following day, Mohandoss helped the Bulldogs to a 5-2 win over North Alabama. The sophomore from Chennai, India, again paired with Giddens at the top doubles flight, and the duo claimed a 6-2 win over Guilherme Diniz and Jamie Bixby. In singles action, Mohandoss gutted out a 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-1 win over Nazar Fedoryshyn.
 
The weekly award is the first of Mohandoss’s career.
 
Samford (2-4) returns to action on Saturday at Southern Miss and Sunday at Alabama A&M.
