SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Laylo Bakhodirova has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 14-20, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
The senior from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to lead the Bucs to a 5-2 win over VCU, their first over the Rams since 2018.
 
In doubles play, Bakhodirova paired with Mariya Shumeika to topple Yelizaveta Karlova and Victoria Matasova, ranked No. 59 nationally, by a 6-4 score.
 
In singles action, Bakhodirova downed Victoria Smirnova 6-3, 7-5.
 
Bakhodirova ran her singles winning streak to six straight and her doubles winning streak with Shumeika to five.
 
The weekly award is the sixth of Bakhodirova’s career and third this season. Only four other SoCon player have earned the honor more times in their careers.
 
ETSU (7-3) is idle until it hosts Radford on Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m.
