SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford first baseman Ryan Galanie and Mercer starter Josh Harlow have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all competition from Feb. 17-19. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
Galanie hit .818 over the opening weekend of the 2023 season, going 9-for-11 over three games in Wofford’s series win over Southern Illinois. The senior from Mason, Ohio, had three hits in each contest, opening the year by going 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs in Friday’s 9-4 setback to the Salukis. The following day, Galanie was 3-for-5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored as the Terriers evened the series with an 8-7 win. Galanie closed his weekend Sunday with another 3-for-3 effort, hitting two doubles, stealing a base, driving in a run and scoring a run, as Wofford clinched the series with a 5-4 win. For the week, Galanie, who was also hit by a pitch Sunday, fashioned an. 846 on-base percentage and a 1.273 slugging percentage.
 
Wofford (2-1) hosts UNC Asheville on Tuesday before welcoming Kent State for a three-game weekend set beginning Friday.
 
Harlow turned in a stellar start to his sophomore campaign, getting the Opening Day nod and tossing six scoreless innings in Mercer’s 9-8 win over William & Mary on Friday. The right-hander from Garner, North Carolina, allowed just one hit and struck a career-high 11 batters before departing with a 5-0 lead.
 
Mercer (2-1) visits Florida A&M for a pair of midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to host Rhode Island for a three-game weekend series starting Friday.
