SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Maxwell Giddens has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Feb. 7-13, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
A junior from Sylacauga, Alabama, Giddens won at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles as the Bulldogs downed Alabama A&M on Sunday, 6-1.
In doubles play, Giddens teamed with last week’s player of the week, Sandeep Mohandoss, for a 6-4 win over Vence N’Tcha and Arnav Pathange. In singles play, Giddens topped N’Tcha in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5.
The weekly award is the first of the Giddens’s career. Giddens is the third straight Bulldog to claim the honor, following Mohammed Ali Bellalouna and Mohandoss.
Samford (3-4) visits Southern Miss on Friday for a 1 p.m. CT start.
