SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina guard Vonterius Woolbright has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Nov. 27-Dec. 3 after averaging 28.5 points and 15 rebounds per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
Woolbright logged 22 points in Western Carolina’s 69-65 win at Tennessee Tech on Nov. 28. The senior was 10-for-19 (.526) from the field, including 2-for-3 (.667) from 3-point range, grabbed 16 rebounds and dished out five assists. On Dec. 2, the Albany, Georgia, product scored a career-high 35 points on 13-for-22 (.591) shooting in the Catamounts’ 82-77 setback at Gardner-Webb. Woolbright was 9-for-12 (.750) from the charity stripe and pulled down 14 rebounds in the contest.
For the week, Woolbright shot 23-for-41 (.561) from the floor. Woolbright currently leads the SoCon in scoring (21.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.9 rpg).
Western Carolina (6-1) travels to High Point on Tuesday and hosts UNC Asheville on Saturday.
