SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman forward Alex Williams has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Dec. 4-10 after averaging 25.5 points per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
Williams logged a career-high 20 points in Furman’s 97-83 setback at SEC foe Arkansas on Dec. 4. The junior shot 7-for-15 (.467) from the field, including 5-for-9 (.556) behind the arc, grabbed four rebounds, had one steal and one assist against the Razorbacks. On Dec. 9, the Xenia, Ohio, product established a new career high, scoring 31 points on 12-for-19 (.632) shooting in a 100-58 victory over Bob Jones. Williams also went 6-for-12 (.500) from 3-point range in the game along with pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out two assists.
For the week, Williams was 19-for-34 (.559) from the floor, which included being 11-for-21 (.524) from long distance.
Furman (5-5) plays at Tulane on Thursday.
