Chattanooga’s Brayden Palmer named SoCon Wrestler of the Week

Opened the 2023-24 campaign with six victories

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Brayden Palmer has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Nov. 1-7. The selection is made by the league office and is the first one of the 2023-24 season.
 
Palmer, who is ranked No. 15 at 125 pounds, began his 2023-24 season winning the Clarion Open on Nov. 5, finishing with a 6-0 record at the event. The native of Hendersonville, Tennessee, outscored his opponents 61-9 in the tournament, picking up five wins via major decision. The senior’s 6-4 win in the final, which was the only victory that came via decision for Palmer, was against Marcus Blaze, who had previously upset No. 1-ranked Matt Ramos from Purdue in the semifinals.
 
Palmer participated in the Clarion Open unattached. The rest of the Mocs competed in the Southeast Open on Saturday, Nov. 4, where seven wrestlers placed in the tournament.
 
Chattanooga travels to Athens, Ohio, on Nov. 11, to compete in duals against Ohio and Ashland.
