Chattanooga’s Jada Guinn named player of the week

Guard named tournament MVP, averaged 22 points and seven rebounds

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Jada Guinn has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 21-27, averaging 22 points, seven rebounds, and two assists per game as the Mocs went 2-0 for the week. The award is selected by the league office.

Guinn, a graduate transfer from Tennessee Tech, was named Daytona Beach Classic MVP as the Mocs defeated Kent State and Northern Kentucky. On Friday, Guinn scored a game and career-high 26 points and grabbed five rebounds in a 64-54 victory over Kent State. Guinn went 11-for-18 from the field, including her first make behind the arc this season, and 3-for-5 on the free-throw line.

The next day, the Oak Ridge, Tennessee, native scored another game-high 18 points, going 4-for-9 from the field and 10-for-13 from the charity stripe. She also secured a team-leading nine rebounds, while tallying three assists and four steals in an 63-47 win against Northern Kentucky. She is currently second in the conference in scoring with 124 points (17.7 avg).

Chattanooga (6-1) travels to Kennesaw State on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The Mocs then host Mississippi State on Sunday, Dec. 3.
