Wofford’s Morgan Named SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week

Outside Hitter delivered Championship clinching kill, holds 3.9 GPA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford volleyball player Mary Emily Morgan has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Nov. 15 - 21.  The selection is made by the conference office.

Morgan was a major piece of Wofford’s SoCon Tournament victory, totaling 29 kills at a rate of 2.42 per set over three matches. The Atlanta, Georgia, native added 33 digs for an average of 2.75 per set and was second on the team in both kills and digs during the tournament. The outside hitter contributed 10 kills in Wofford’s 3-2 victory over Western Carolina in the quarterfinals and 12 kills in the final against Samford. Morgan paced the Terriers in the semifinals against Chattanooga with 18 digs.

The junior delivered the championship-clinching kill in the Terriers’ 3-1 win over Samford, giving Wofford its first tournament title for any women’s sport in school history. With a 3.9 GPA in business economics, Morgan took home the Tournament’s Pinnacle Award.
