SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman football player Julian Ashby has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Nov. 8 - 14.  The selection is made by the conference office.

Ashby initiated 12 plays that accounted for 13 points in the Paladin’s 37-3 victory over VMI to clinch the outright regular season title. The Lilburn, Georgia, native successfully executed three snaps for field goals, four snaps on point after attempts and went five-for-five on successful snaps on punts. Ashby also assisted on a tackle in Saturday’s victory allowing only five yards on VMI’s solo return attempt.

The redshirt junior serves as the Paladin’s snapper on all placements and punts, a task he has handled over the last three-plus seasons while maintaining a 3.97 GPA in Physics.

Furman (9-1, 7-0 SoCon), the consensus No. 2 in both AFCA and Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Polls, has won eight straight and 13 consecutive league games.  The Paladins play Wofford this Saturday in Spartanburg in the regular season finale.  Kickoff at Gibbs Stadium is set for noon.
