SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer’s Stacie Jones has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 6-13, averaging 14 points and 10 rebounds per game as the Bears went 1-2 in their first three games of the 2023-24 season. The award is selected by the league office.
Jones, a Kennesaw State transfer, played her first game for Mercer on Monday, Nov. 6, as the Bears fell to Western Kentucky 70-64. Jones grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds, eight offensive, and scored 15 points for her first double-double this season. The Kathleen, Georgia, native also dished out two assists and had two steals in the season opener.
Three days later, the senior forward got her second double-double, going 8-for-12 from the field, tallying 20 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-62 victory in the Bears’ home opener against FAU. Jones also blocked a shot in the fourth quarter to help seal the game. Against Clemson on Sunday, which was a 90-66 setback for Mercer, Jones scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds.
Mercer (1-2) travels to Georgia on Thursday, Nov. 16. The Bears then head home to host Tulane on Sunday, Nov. 19.
