SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina forward Naya Marcil and Catamount defender Becca Campbell have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 26-Oct. 2.

Marcil started both games for Western Carolina last week as the Catamounts went 2-0. The junior played 65 minutes in the team’s 4-0 victory over UNCG on Sept. 28, scoring one goal and picking up one assist. Against the Spartans, Marcil scored the first goal of the contest in the 47th minute and assisted on the second goal of the match two minutes later as teammate Isabella Demarco scored. The Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, native scored one goal and had two assists for Western Carolina as the Catamounts defeated Wofford, 5-0, on Oct. 1. Marcil scored her goal in the 46th minute versus the Terriers, while her assists came in the eighth minute and the 52nd minute of the match.

Campbell played 90 minutes against UNCG and 86 minutes versus Wofford, contributing to the team’s two shutouts as a defender. In the contest with Wofford, the senior from Edmonton, Alberta, scored a goal in the 52nd minute off a header to contribute to the team’s offensive effort. Campbell has started on the Catamounts’ back line in every match this season, missing just seven minutes of gametime overall.

Western Carolina (6-3-3, 3-1 SoCon) hosts Chattanooga (8-3-1, 2-1-1) on Thursday, before traveling to Mercer (7-2-5, 2-1-1) on Sunday.
