WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Furman senior Anna Morgan (-5) is tied for the lead after firing a 67 in Friday’s opening round of the 21st Annual Landfall Tradition, which is being hosted by UNC Wilmington at the par 72, 6,194 yard Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan teed off on No. 10 and birdied her first four holes.  She added additional birdies on No. 15 and No. 18 to turn at 6-under.  On the front, Morgan birdied No. 6 for a team-high seven birdies to finish the day tied with Penn State’s Michelle Cox (-5), who also carded a first-round 56.  

Junior Alise Knudson (+4) notched consecutive birdies on No. 11 and No. 12 and is tied for 67th after posting a 76, while freshman Audrey Ryu (+5) and sophomore Liza Lapeyre (+5) are tied for 74 after each tallied a 77 in the opening round.  Ryu birdied No. 18, and Lapeyre birdied No. 11 and No. 13.  Senior Caroline Crumrine (+6) shot a 78 with a birdie on No. 16 to tie for 85th.   

Freshman Kelsi Mauzy (+7), who is competing as an individual, recorded a 79 to tie for 89th. 

No. 29 Michigan State (-9) holds a five-stroke lead after the tournament’s first round.  No. 14 UCF (-4) is second, while 16th-ranked Clemson (-3) and Illinois (-3) are tied for third.  No. 19 Duke (-2) rounds out the top five.  Furman (+9) is tied for 14th with N.C. State (+9). 

The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday beginning at 8:30 a.m. with teams starting on No. 1 and No. 10.  The Paladins will tee off beginning at 9:15 a.m. from No. 10 and will play in a group with Penn State and N.C. State.  Sunday’s final round will feature an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start.
