SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina’s Brie Mapanao has been selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Oct. 18-24. The selection is made by the league office.
 
Mapanao won the Terrier Intercollegiate in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which wrapped play on Tuesday. The sophomore posted rounds of 76-66-70 for a tournament score of 212 (-4). The sophomore rallied 19 positions in the second round, overcoming a first-round 4-over-par 76 to shoot 10 strokes better for a career-low round of 6-under-par 66, moving her into the runner-up spot entering the final round. The Quakers Hill, New South Wales, Australia, product finished the tournament tied for first with 13 total birdies and paced the field on par 5 scoring at 5-under (4.58).
 
Western Carolina placed third in the 14-team, 75-golfer field, with a 40-over-par 904. The Catamounts shot 306 in the first round, 299 in the second round and 299 in the final round.
 
The Catamounts completed their fall season at the Terrier Intercollegiate. Western Carolina will open the spring season on Feb. 12-13 at the Oyster Shuck Match Play in Charleston, South Carolina.
