SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five regular-season Southern Conference men’s basketball games will air on CBS Sports Network this season.
“The Southern Conference’s partnership with CBS Sports Network creates important national exposure for our teams through high-end linear television broadcasts,” SoCon Commissioner Michael Cross said. “The opportunity to tell the stories of our student-athletes and their institutions is a recognition of the SoCon as a perennially strong mid-major basketball conference. CBS Sports Network provides an amazing platform for the nation to see the SoCon’s compelling teams first-hand.”
The first game in the package will be Saturday, Jan. 13, when UNCG visits Chattanooga at 7 p.m. The Spartans won both matchups a season ago by double figures en route to finishing third in the conference standings with a 20-12 overall record and a 14-4 SoCon record. The Mocs were 18-17 overall and 7-11 in conference play in 2022-23 to finish the regular season seventh in the league, but advanced to the 2023 SoCon Tournament final after winning three games at the Ingles SoCon Men’s Basketball Championship.
Samford at Western Carolina on Tuesday, Jan. 16, will be the second featured game for the conference. The contest was originally scheduled to be played on Jan. 17. The Bulldogs finished tied for first in the regular season with Furman last season after logging a 21-11 overall record and 15-3 mark in SoCon action. The Catamounts had an 18-16 overall mark and 10-8 conference record in 2022-23 before falling in the semifinals of the SoCon Tournament.
Furman, the 2023 SoCon Tournament champion, travels to ETSU on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Paladins followed their conference tournament championship with an upset of Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago. The Bucs finished 12-20 overall and 8-10 in conference play in 2022-23.
Chattanooga travels to Furman on Sunday, Feb. 18, for the fourth contest of the slate, while Western Carolina plays at UNCG on Wednesday, Feb. 21, to round out the league’s games on CBS Sports Network.
