SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Laylo Bakhodirova has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 24-30, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
Bakhodirova won at No. 1 singles and doubles in the Bucs’ 4-2 setback at Virginia Tech on Sunday.
The senior from Tashkent, Uzbekistan, partnered with Mariya Shumeika to take down the Hokies’ Dariya Radulova and Ozlem Uslu at the top doubles flight, 6-4, clinching the doubles point for ETSU.
In singles play, Bakhodirova dispatched Radulova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The weekly award is the fifth of Bakhodirova’s career and second in three weeks.
ETSU (2-3) heads to Nashville, Tennessee, for matches at Lipscomb and Belmont on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Also nominated: Eden Schlagenhauf (Mercer), Raegan Mitchell (UNCG), Caroline Gibbens (Chattanooga) and Madison Schwarz (Western Carolina).
