SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Rachael Rose has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 24-30 after averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Rose began the week playing 35 minutes as Wofford defeated Mercer, 76-71, on Thursday. The native of Scranton, Pennsylvania, scored 15 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and had a steal and a block. Rose’s performance at Mercer was her fourth double-double of the season.
 
In the game at Samford, Rose played 39 minutes as the Terriers won 79-75 on Saturday. Rose had 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. The sophomore guard shot 6-for-14 (.429) from the floor and 7-for-8 (.875) from the charity stripe against the Bulldogs. Rose finished the weekend with just three turnovers in 74 minutes of play.
 
Wofford’s two victories marked the first time that a SoCon squad won at Mercer and Samford back-to-back since Chattanooga achieved the feat in the 2016-17 season.
 
Wofford (15-6, 5-2 SoCon) hosts Furman (9-13, 1-6) on Saturday, Feb. 4.
