Samford’s Bellalouna named SoCon player of the week

Bulldog senior won at No. 1 singles and doubles

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Mohammed Ali Bellalouna has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 24-30, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Bellalouna earned wins at No. 1 singles and doubles as the Bulldogs topped Alabama State on Friday, 5-2, for their first win of the season.
 
The senior from Tunis, Tunisia, paired with Maxwell Giddens to shut out David Grandinot and Sam Bajracharya at the top doubles spot, 6-0. In singles play, Bellalouna rebounded from a first-set loss for a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Grandinot.
 
The weekly award is the second of Bellalouna’s career, as he also won on Jan. 18, 2022.
 
Samford (1-3) caps a four-match homestand when it hosts South Alabama on Friday at 3 p.m. CT and North Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
