SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Khalis Cain has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Dec. 27 to Jan. 2 after leading the Spartans to a win against Lenoir-Rhyne. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Cain started and played 25 minutes in UNCG’s lone game last week as the Spartans won, 68-60, versus in-state foe Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday, Dec. 30. The native of San Jose, California, scored 15 points and tied for a game-high 11 rebounds in the contest, while also blocking two shots. Cain shot 7-for-9 (.778) from the field as the junior posted her fourth double-double of the season.
 
UNCG (7-7) opens its conference slate of games this week as the Spartans travel to Mercer (4-9) on Thursday, Jan. 5, and Samford (6-9) on Saturday, Jan. 7.
