SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s David Flisberg has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played from Jan. 17-23, the conference announced on Tuesday. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Flisberg went 1-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles as UNCG picked up a 5-2 win over Longwood on Friday for its first win of the season.
 
The junior from Stockholm, Sweden, teamed with John Gabelic to down the Lancers’ Yoav Weinberg and Timeo Puech at the top doubles spot, 6-3. In singles play, Flisberg gutted out a 7-5 win over Guillermo Cagigas in the first set before cruising to a 6-1 win in set two, with his win clinching the match for the Spartans.
 
The weekly award is the first of Flisberg’s career.
 
UNCG (1-2) returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 7, when it hosts Radford at noon.
