SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford senior Logan Dye has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 after averaging 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in helping the Bulldogs to a 2-0 start to SoCon play. The award is selected by the league office.
 
Dye opened his week with 23 points, three rebounds and a blocked shot as Samford topped visiting Mercer 78-69 on Wednesday on ESPNU in the league’s first SoCon game of the season. Dye was 7-for-11 from the floor (.636), including a 3-for-4 effort (.750) from 3-point range. He was 6-for-6 from the free-throw line on the evening as the Bulldogs snapped a seven-game skid.
 
In Saturday’s 75-63 win at The Citadel, the forward from Haleyville, Alabama, scored a game-high 20 points, pulled down eight rebounds and had one assist. Dye was 7-for-9 from the field (.778) with his only two misses coming from beyond the 3-point arc, where he was 1-for-3 (.333). Dye converted five of his six free-throw attempts (.833).
 
For the week, Dye was 14-for-20 (.700) from the floor and shot 91.7 percent from the foul line (11-for-12). He was 4-for-7 from 3-point range (.571).
 
Samford (8-7, 2-0 SoCon) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts VMI (5-10, 0-2) at 6:30 p.m. CT / 7:30 p.m. ET. The Bulldogs then visit UNCG (8-7, 2-0) on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. ET for one of two Ingles SoCon Games of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates.
