SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU guard Jordan King has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for all contests from Jan. 9-15 after averaging 27.5 points, shooting 64 percent from the floor and turning in the top scoring effort in the league this season in splitting a pair of SoCon games on the week. The award is selected by the league office.
King got his week started with one of the best performances in school history, as he scored a career-high 42 points in Wednesday’s 96-74 win at The Citadel. The junior from Albany, New York, was 14-for-19 (.737) from the floor on the day, including an 8-for-12 mark from 3-point range (.667), posting career highs in total baskets and 3-pointers made. King was also accurate from the free-throw line, where he was 6-for-7 (.857). Also adding a career-best seven steals on the afternoon, King became the only NBA, WNBA or Division I men’s or women’s player in 20 years to record at least 40 points, seven steals and seven made 3s in a game. King’s 42-point effort tied the third-highest point total in ETSU program history and made him one of just six Bucs all time to score at least 40 in a game.
King’s point total was the highest by a SoCon player since Furman’s Jordan Lyons dropped 54 against North Greenville on Nov. 15, 2018, and the most by a SoCon player against a DI opponent since Wofford’s Fletcher Magee had 45 against Chattanooga on Feb. 17, 2018. King’s effort is tied for sixth on the DI single-game scoring list this season.
King followed that effort with 13 points in Saturday’s 68-55 setback to Mercer. He was 4-for-9 (.444) from the floor, hitting a 3-pointer and going 4-for-5 from the line (.800).
For the week, King averaged 27.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game. He was 18-for-28 (.643) from the field, 9-for-15 (.600) from beyond the arc and 10-for-12 (.833) from the line.
ETSU (7-12, 3-3 SoCon) hosts league-leading Samford (12-7, 6-0) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before visiting Chattanooga (11-8, 3-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Other nominees: Stephen Clark (The Citadel), Marcus Foster (Furman), Jah Quinones (Mercer), Keyshaun Langley (UNCG), Logan Dye (Samford), Jake Stephens (Chattanooga), Vonterius Woolbright (Western Carolina) and B.J. Mack (Wofford).
