SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga wrestler Lincoln Heck has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Jan. 4-10. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Heck earned a 14-2 major decision over VMI’s Job Chishko at 157 pounds on Friday as the Mocs opened league action with a 30-9 win, handing the Keydets (5-1, 0-1 SoCon) their first dual loss of the season. Heck got the opening takedown and led 4-1 at the end of the first period. After Chishko chose down to open the second, Heck rode him for the entire two minutes to clinch the riding-time bonus late in the period. The West Wyoming, Pennsylvania, native then scored nine points in the final frame, using a quick escape, two takedowns and a four-point near fall for the final tally.
 
The major decision was Heck’s first of the season and fourth in a dual match in his career.
 
A sophomore accounting major, Heck has a 3.45 GPA.
 
Chattanooga (4-7, 1-0) steps back out of conference action to host West Virginia (6-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. The Mountaineers entered this week's NWCA Division I Coaches Poll at No. 24.
 
Also nominated: Nigeria Harkless (Mercer women’s basketball) and Lilly Hatton (Wofford women’s basketball).
