SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Andrea Bailey has been named Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 3-9 after averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists per game last week. The award is selected by the league office.
Bailey, who also received the honor on Nov. 22, began the week by leading the Bulldogs to a 59-47 victory over Western Carolina on Thursday. The guard from Merryville, Louisiana, scored 22 points, pulled down six rebounds and had an assist versus the Catamounts. Bailey, who also had four steals against the Catamounts, was 6-for-18 from the floor and was perfect on eight attempts from the free-throw line. The 22 points in the contest marked the seventh time this season that Bailey scored 20 or more in a game.
In Saturday’s win over UNCG, Bailey poured in 18 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. Bailey, who had three steals in the game with the Spartans, went 7-for-14 (.500) from the floor and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.
Samford (8-9, 2-0 SoCon) travels to Chattanooga (9-7, 1-0) on Thursday, Jan. 12, and ETSU (13-4, 0-1) on Saturday, Jan. 14.
