Furman's Robertson named Student-Athlete of the Week

Won individual title at USC Upstate’s Eye Opener; Maintains a 3.88 GPA

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman women’s cross country athlete Abigail Robertson has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Robertson paced Furman’s women’s team at USC Upstate’s Eye Opener XC Festival on Friday, Sept. 2, at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina, posting a 5k time of 17:49.7 to claim the individual title among the 91 finishers. The senior’s first-place finish helped lead the Paladin women to the team title in the 12-team race with a perfect score of 15 points.
 
Robertson was also named the SoCon Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week on Wednesday.
 
The Marietta, Georgia, native maintains a 3.88 grade point average and is majoring in health science.
 
The Paladins return to Greenville, South Carolina, on Saturday, Sept. 17, to host the Furman Invitational before the squad travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday, Sept. 24, to compete in Oklahoma State’s Cowboy Jamboree.
 
Also nominated for Student-Athlete of the Week: Vlad Zander-Velloso (Mercer men’s cross country), Reuben Lowery III (Chattanooga football), Alex Fiorillo (VMI men’s cross country), Richard McCollum (Western Carolina football) and Jackson Wrobel (Wofford men’s soccer).
