SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Dorota Zalewska has been selected as the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from Sept. 21-27. The selection, the third of the 2022-23 campaign, is made by the league office.
Zalewska tied for second in a loaded field of 78 participants with a 7-under-par 209 at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tennessee, at the par-72, 6,449-yard Vanderbilt Legends Golf Club. The Sczcecin, Poland, native opened with a 2-under 70 in Friday’s opening round to tie for seventh and moved up into a tie for third Saturday after tallying a 4-under 68, with the second-round score marking her fifth card in the 60s this season, giving her 10 for her career and matching Emily McLennan's (2013-16) school record. The senior closed out the tournament with a 1-under 71 on Sunday to tie with Georgia's Jenny Bae and finish two strokes back of medalist Megan Scholfill of Auburn. Zalewska posted her eighth top-five and 12th top-10 finish and is currently 15-under for the season through nine cards, with seven of the nine under par.
Chattanooga finished sixth in the power-packed 14-team field, completing the tournament with a 9-over 873 performance. The Mocs shot 300 in the first round, 279 in the second, and 294 in the final round, clinching wins over Alabama (+10), Ohio State (+11) Kentucky (+15) and Georgia (+15). Mississippi State won the tournament with an 845, followed by Arizona at 849 and tournament host Vanderbilt at 850.
This marks Zalewska’s second consecutive weekly honor of the season and the fifth of her career.
Chattanooga returns to action on Friday, Oct. 7, at the Ron Moore Invitational hosted by Denver in Denver, Colorado.
