SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel senior forward Suzuka Yosue and Furman senior goalkeeper Nora Sampson have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 13-19.
 
Yosue started for The Citadel in its lone game last week as the Bulldogs defeated Charleston Southern, 3-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 13. After a scoreless first half, Yosue assisted on all three goals for The Citadel in the second half to lead the squad to victory. Yosue had her first assist in the 53rd minute when she fed Ashley Frank for the first goal of the match. The native of Osaka, Japan, had her next assist four minutes later as Kristi Jones scored to put The Citadel up 2-0. Yosue’s final assist came in the 74th minute when she did a give-and-go with Jimena Risoto to put the Bulldogs up by three. The three assists for Yosue against Charleston Southern are the highest assist total for a game by any player in the conference this season.
 
Sampson played all 90 minutes inside the net for Furman as the Paladins grabbed a 1-0 victory over the College of Charleston on Friday, Sept. 16. Sampson turned in a career-best 10 saves in the match, which also served as senior night for the Atlanta, Georgia, native. The senior has appeared in seven matches this season, including starts in the last two, and has not given up a goal.
 
The Citadel (4-3-0, 0-0-0 SoCon) hosts South Carolina State on Tuesday, Sept. 20, in its final nonconference match of the season. The Bulldogs will open their conference schedule on Friday, Sept. 23, at Samford and travel to Chattanooga on Sunday, Sept. 25. Furman (5-4-0, 0-0-0 SoCon) travels to ETSU on Friday, Sept. 23, and Western Carolina on Sunday, Sept. 25, to open its SoCon slate of games.
