Singerman named third-team Academic All-American

Becomes fourth Academic All-American in program history

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman’s Drew Singerman has been named to the Academic All-America men’s at-large third team, which was selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Tuesday by the organization.

A senior from Louisville, Kentucky, Singerman, a member of the Paladins’ men’s tennis team for five seasons and three-year captain, graduated with a 4.0 GPA in health sciences in 2021 and recently completed a master’s in community engaged medicine, also with a 4.0 GPA. He will attend medical school this fall at the University of Kentucky.

A three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Singerman was voted team MVP and honored as an All-Southern Conference second team selection in singles in 2019 after recording a perfect 17-0 mark. He claimed 15 singles victories this spring and was accorded the SoCon’s 2022 Buddy Hartsell Sportsmanship Award.

Singerman was inducted into Furman’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa and was the recipient of Paladin Athletics’ 2020-21 Dr. John M. Block Academic Achievement Award. In addition, he was recognized with the Jerry R. Thomas Award in Health Sciences and Furman’s Shucker Leadership Institute’s Winston Babb Memorial Award.

During his Furman career, Singerman earned multiple ITA All-Academic Team citations and volunteered in many areas, including Habitat for Humanity, Valiant Player Initiative Greenville that included visits to children’s hospitals, Harvest Hope Food Distribution in Greenville, and Hand-in-Hand Ministries in Louisville distributing supplies for families.

Singerman becomes the fourth CoSIDA Academic All-American in the history of the Furman men’s tennis program, joining Steve Price (1986), Troy Goers (1986), and James Cameron (2003).
